Six Items or Less

So, when I was in New York last, visiting my grandparents, I happened to come across this article in the New York Times about the Six Items or Less challenge. People picked six items of clothing and wore them for an entire month. Shoes and accessories don't count, but everything else does. And I thought it seemed pretty interesting. So I've been wanting to try it. And March seemed like a conveniently boring enough month to try it out. So I did. For all of March I only wore two shirts, one pair of jeans, one skirt, one dress and one cardigan. And this is what I found out.

- IT'S HARD! I can't count how many times I would sit there in ACappella and watch all the other girls walk by in their cute outfits and miss all my cute clothes. Or how often I'd find myself sitting in front of my closet staring at all those forbidden clothes and think "WHY AM I DOING THIS TO MYSELF?"

 - The only person that noticed was my mother. At least,  she was the only one that said anything to me about it. She actually offered to take me shopping because she thought I didn't have enough clothes. I was really surprised that more of my friends didn't notice. Maybe they did and didn't say anything. Did you notice?

- I don't think I got the concept the people originally intended the challenge to have. It was an interesting experience, but I was really glad when it was over. I don't really think that you can be satisfied on that small an amount of clothes. Sure you can survive. But I wasn't happy.

- I did laundry A LOT more.

So I am very glad to be back to shamelessly wearing all the clothes in my closet, and there are so many to choose from! I'm so excited!

  1. Yup, didn't notice. But I did sometimes smell something putrid...;)

  2. Um, that's nuts. I didn't even notice at all! And I always feel guilty about wearing the same pair of jeans twice in a week. You are too cool! Maybe I'll try that sometime...
