Beginner's makeup: Skincare

I'll be honest, I've never had much of a skincare routine. I actually remember when I was about 15 being at a dance company party and everyone was going around sharing what kind of face wash they use, and that was the first time I realized cleansing your face was a normal thing to do. When they got to me, I just made something up because I was too embarrassed to say I didn't use face wash.

Since then, I have used face wash and other skincare products, but until recently I'd never really put a lot of thought or care into my skin. I mean, for years I used a particular face wash only because it smelled like my boyfriend. But lately, I've realized that skin is kind of important and I want mine to look nice when I'm older, so I'd better show it some more love.

Here are the products I've found help me to maintain healthy, happy skin.

Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser

This stuff smells so good! When I opened it for the first time I just about died, it smelled so nice. (Okay, so apparently smell is still an important factor for me.)It also lives up to its claim about acne fighting. Whenever I get blemishes, this gets rid of them fast. It also lathers up really well, so a little goes a long way and it's easy to use.

Aveeno Smart Essentials Day and Night Moisturizer

This duo is great because it's very light and absorbs really well. There is nothing I dislike more than a thick, sticky moisturizer. These go on and feel like they're not even there, The day moisturizer is great because it's got spf 30 in it, so it's got sun protection as well. Other than the spf, I don't think there's much of a difference between the day and the night cream, so if you just want to buy one product instead of two, you'd be fine using the day moisturizer for both day and night. Another thing to remember with moisturizers- apply them to your neck as well as your face. The skin on your neck needs to be taken care of too, and using moisturizer will keep it from looking older while your face stays young.

Vivo Facial Peeling Exfoliator

This product has done more to improve the health and appearance of my skin than any other product. It's pricey, something I would never buy, but I was roped into it by a salesperson at one of those mall kiosks. It was another one of those moments like the one at my dance party I mentioned before. The lady asked me what kind of exfoliator I used, and I replied "None" while thinking in my head "That's a thing too?" But this product is really amazing. Exfoliating on a regular basis helps to get rid of all the old, dead skin cells. It's helped my skin be softer, clearer, and has even made my complexion more even. I'm sure that there are cheaper versions of this product that do the job just as well, which I'll be exploring in the future. But in the meantime, I consider this product a good investment, I'm definitely getting my money's worth.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen

Sunscreen is so important! Especially when you're pale, like me. The problem with sunscreen is it tends to be sticky or oily, most kinds just don't feel good on skin. I've never liked that I could always feel the sunscreen on my skin. Which is why I feel in love with this one. Because this sunscreen is not sticky or oily or in any way weird feeling. It doesn't even smell like sunscreen! I love wearing this sunscreen, and since I love wearing it, I wear it more often and get sunburns less. It's great.
