Let's Live in the Mountains

One of the things that I love most about the place I grew up is the mountains. I grew up in a house right at the base of a mountain, and there was a canyon a ten minute walk away. There were slate rock deposits up the canyon, and my brothers and I would walk up there and collect the slate. It was all kinds of colors- green, blue, orange, purple. You could scratch drawings and words into it, kind of like it was a chalkboard. We'd always bring some of the slate home with us. My brothers would use it to make "weapons", mostly knives or spears for playing cowboys and Indians. I just liked it because it was pretty.

I'm grateful to live in a place where I can go into the mountains and be reminded that I am just a piece of a much larger world.
