It Has Its Moments

I teach the 10-11 year olds at my church, and most of the time it's pretty crazy. They're old enough to be bored by all the little kid stuff we do, but not old enough to sit still for an hour at a time. So most of the time, teaching them a lesson requires lots of requests to sit down, lots of bribing with treats, and lots of repeating myself because they weren't paying attention. Sometimes the boys push each other off their chairs. Occasionally someone will fall out the window (don't worry, we're on the first floor). Most of the time, I'm just trying to keep things from descending into absolute chaos.
And then every once in awhile, one of my students will compliment the cookies I brought and thank me for them. Or stay after the lesson so she can write down what I wrote on the board. Or smile at me as he bears his testimony in sacrament meeting. And those moments make all the other crazy moments worth it.
