Some Saturday Morning Reading (A Day Late I Know)

I thought this picture was appropriate for a week that has made me feel pretty sad and disappointed. I've read and watched a lot of people express fear and discouragment over the election results this week, and to be honest I've felt a bit of fear myself. It has been heartbreaking to read expressions such as "the results showed that an overwhelming part of America does not want minorities here. This isn't just another cyclical political party swing. It's a loud and resounding message from white people telling minorities that we shouldn't get too comfortable here" . It's hard to see how Donald Trump's America can be a place where everyone is welcome and everyone is equal.

There is a sense that people voted for Trump because they are racist. I find this article- 6 Reasons For Trump's Rise No One Talks About- a much better explanation, and something that we all need to consider moving forward. Here's my favorite quote:

"The rural folk with the Trump signs in their yards say their way of life is dying, and you smirk and say what they really mean is that blacks and gays are finally getting equal rights and they hate it. But I'm telling you, they say their way of life is dying because their way of life is dying. It's not their imagination. No movie about the future portrays it as being full of traditional families, hunters, and coal mines."

I hope this election causes us to listen a little better and care a little more about each other. I hope we have realized how divided we are, and how much we need to come together.

And now let's celebrate the fact that this awful election is finally over. Here's some happier, funnier posts for you to enjoy!

I can definitely relate to this.

Love Taza's travel videos are the best.

And lastly, is it too early to be thinking about Christmas decorations?
