Las Vegas

Last week Josh and I went on vacation to Las Vegas. We stayed for four days and had a really fun time exploring the city, and mostly eating a lot of food.

We decided to stay in downtown Las Vegas rather than the strip. Downtown is a bit more old Vegas, and it's been going through a bit of a renovation. There's lots of great places to eat, and nice hotels. Everything is also much closer together than on the strip, so we were able to walk everywhere. We stayed at the Downtown Grand, which we really liked. It's a block away from the main street, so it was close to everything while also being a bit secluded. It also has a nice pool deck, which was a fun place to hang out and swim.

The main thing we did was eat. We went to one of  Vegas's famous buffets, the Bacchanal at Caesar's Palace. There were a million different types of food to choose from, but my personal favorite was the pink grapefruit gelato. It was fantastic. We also went to Gordon Ramsey's fish and chips restaurant, which was probably my favorite meal of the trip. I also couldn't resist trying the Sprinkles cupcake ATM, which is exactly what it sounds like- an ATM that gives you cupcakes. We had some really good Korean barbeque with some of our friends at Mr. Lee's. And yes, those are octopuses, and no, I didn't eat any. In downtown, we ate at Pizza Rock, which has some world famous pizzas, and we also tried the Donut Bar, which has doughnuts the size of my face.

Aside from eating we did do a little bit of sightseeing. We went to the Downtown Container Park, which is a really cute shopping area in downtown made out of shipping containers. There's lots of different shops to look at, and some good food. And a giant praying mantis that blows fire out its antennas. We also went out to Henderson to the Ethel M. Chocolate Factory and cactus garden. It was a fun little side trip, and the garden was fun to walk through.

We have some friends who live in Vegas and they were nice enough to show us around the strip one night. We went and saw the gardens in the Bellagio and Josh was finally able to play a slot machine, where he lost all his money very quickly.

It was a really fun trip, and we'll definitely be back again some time!
