A Weekend Camping Trip To Little Grand Canyon

Josh and I made a bit of a spur of the moment decision last week to go camping down at the Little Grand Canyon. It's part of the San Rafael Swell, and it's only a two hour drive from our house. We left our house late Friday afternoon, and got back early Saturday afternoon. Even though we were gone less than 24 hours, it was a really fun, relaxing trip.

We stayed at the Wedge Overlook campground, which was right by the canyon. There were only a couple other people there, so we had the place mostly to ourselves. We spent most of our time walking along the rim of the canyon. We sat on a ledge to watch the sunset and the stars come out. Josh had been to the San Rafael Swell in high school with a biology group, and the thing he remembered most about it was the amount of stars in the sky. So that was the main reason we went and it did not disappoint. We could see the belt of the Milky Way, and about a million other stars.

In the morning we explored the rim of the canyon a little more, and then drove down to the bottom to see some rock art. It was amazing how detailed some of the art was, considering how long ago it was made.

Me and my "hippie t-shirt", as Josh calls it.

It was great to be able to go on such a quick trip to a really amazing place. I love living in Utah because we have so many amazing places to explore so close to us. Here's to many more adventures.
